NEW DELHI: In a landmark award, a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has ruled that the two married sisters of a scooterist who died in an accident be compensated with Rs 3.3 lakh for the loss suffered by them even though they were not financially dependent on the victim. The tribunal said dependence doesn't imply financial dependence alone. "Compensation can't just be awarded on account of financial dependence...
but also loss of companionship and moral support," it said. The insurance company involved in the case had argued that since the sisters were married, they weren't entitled to any compensation.
